Ann Arbor Tortilla Factory
We at Mitten Crate love the vibe in Ann Arbor. It’s a bigger community with main street roots, which might lead to why Ann Arbor Tortilla Factory makes some of the best chips around. We met up with Guadalupe to find out why something seemingly so simple tastes so good.
Tell us a little about yourself and the company you own/run
I am Salvadorean by birth and have lived in Ann Arbor for most of my adult life. My sister, my brother and I started the company 6 years ago with the intention of making the kind of product that we grew up with. Ann Arbor, being the wonderful town that it is, welcomed us with open arms. For that, we are, forever grateful.
What makes your products special/unique
We use the traditional Nixtamal method. The Non-GMO corn is cooked, steeped, and after 10-12 hours it is cleaned and stone ground to make the tortillas and chips.
It is labor intensive and time consuming but the taste of the final product is worth it. We use only Non-GMO ingredients and send the chips and tortillas daily to the markets to give the consumer a fresh and tasty corn chip!
What’s the favorite part about your job
Dealing with people from all walks of life, in spite of the awful things that happen in the world, my experience has been that there is goodness in all of us.
