Michele at Sweet Artisan Marshmallows has us hooked. We scouted her from a local farmers market and were blown away by the foodie inspired flavors she was offering. I think Andrew and myself must have tried a baker’s dozen different flavors!! Not that I’m complaining, if you’ve read our article on Hip in Detroit, we were asking for this months ago!!
Here’s the skinny, err here’s the fluff on this great Michigan Made Marshmallow company.
Tell us a little about yourself and the company you own/run
SWEET artisan marshmallows is a company that makes all natural, handmade marshmallows in fun and sometimes funky flavors in small batches, using local ingredients whenever possible.
I’m the fluff artist and a pretty high energy Detroit mom and grandma. I love food and am passionate about all kinds of creating. I have fallen in love with the process of creating marshmallows. They are like my blank page on which to create my masterpieces. They are a wonderful vehicle for flavor.
What is your location and when did you start/how long has the company been in business
I started SWEET July 12th, 2012. WE brought the marshmallows to market for the first time in November of that year. We do not currently have a retail location.
What makes your products special/unique
We are the original handmade marshmallow company in the Detroit area. We create flavors which you cannot get anywhere else, even outside of Detroit. Our products are all natural and most are gluten free. We flavor with actual fruits, juices, herbs, spices, essential oils, etc… Additionally, we create handmade graham crackers, chocolate grahams and shortbreads for our gourmet and giant s’mores.
What’s the favorite part about your job
I truly love creating the flavors and the actual marshmallows. I love the process and seeing them go from liquid to fluff in ten minutes! The other real bonus is the looks on people’s faces and the joy that they clearly get from experiencing our products.
Where can we buy more of your products
And last, we will be featured at the new artisan food market, Cottage Food Collective on the east side of Detroit, scheduled to open late spring or early summer of 2014.
Whats the best way to enjoy/eat/prepare/utilize your product
Our marshmallows are so tasty that we hear on a regular basis how people like them and they don’t even normally like marshmallows. To that end, one of the best ways to enjoy them is to simply pop one in your mouth. However, they can be used in all of the same ways that mass-produced marshmallows can in s’mores, crisp rice treats, recipes, and in hot beverages like chocolate, coffee or tea.
